Celebrating Long Term Skittlers
2024-25 Season
Tony Meadows, Chairman, accompanied by Charmian Sheppard, Hon. Secretary, and Wendy Harris dropped into the Charlton Club on 31st October to congratulate three Charlton Ladies players on their achieving 50 years skittling in the team.
A total surprise for Jane, Liz and Mo, made extra special by the lovely cake and food provided by their team - and both teams enjoyed a great night of skittles.
Jane Brookes - 50 Years

Discovering Skittles aged 23, your first season being in 1974-1975 Congratulations on achieving your 50-year milestone in the
2024-2025 Season
Bowling from the right hand side of the alley, your devotion to Charlton Ladies is much admired and appreciated by everyone, (particularly your lifelong friend Mo, and Sister-in-law Liz).
Serving as Vice Captain and Team Secretary – no easy tasks, well done.
Liz Brookes - 50 Years

Again discovering Skittles aged 23, your first season also being in 1974-1975 alongside Jane. Congratulations on achieving your 50-year milestone.

An integral Member of the team who, during those 50 years of ups and downs, has never forgotten or lost sight of the fact that
SKITTLES IS A GREAT GAME
Mo Hanagarth - 50 Years

Another Cheltenham Skittles League Player Celebrating achieving 50 years skittling In the Charlton Ladies Skittle Team

Bowling from the middle of the alley, your devotion to Charlton Ladies is much admired and appreciated by everyone, (particularly your lifelong friends Liz and Jane).
Dave Finch - 50 Years

Executive Committee Members, Phil Judge (President), Wendy Harris, Charmian Sheppard, Di Blackburn and Debbie Gronow called into the Adam & Eve, on 30th October, to celebrate Dave Finch and his 50 years of skittling in the Cheltenham League.

Dave flew into the Fir Trees from the Ravens, has skittled for Cheltenham Town and has been an active member of the team since joining.

Dave has been integral to many of the skittle trips and outings and has introduced team members to the other sport – Golf – which now plays a big part in their Skittle trips away.
A great team player, it is fair to say Dave has seen the ups and downs, but through all Wins and Losses – he has never lost sight of the fact that SKITTLES IS A GREAT GAME
Derek Stanton - 50 Years

On 30th October Executive Committee members were also delighted to celebrate another 50 year skittler playing for the Fir Trees - Derek Stanton.

Derek signed on for the Fir Trees aged 19, when they were in Division 15 of the League, and he picked up the captaincy in the 80’s standing down at the turn of the century after 20 years service.
After enjoying a long break playing as one of the team, during which they have travelled up through the Divisions, the 2024-2025 Season sees him picking up the Captains armband once again. Now in Division 3, and leading from the front, it is fair to say Derek has seen the ups and downs.
Nigel Grinnell - 60 Years

On 15th October Executive Committee members Tony Meadows (Chair), Charmian Sheppard, Wendy Harris and Di Blackburn visited the Kings Head in Bishops Cleeve to celebrate Nigel Grinnell and his 60 years of skittling.

Congratulations Grin on your being the last original Rolling Pin – vintage 1964 – still playing the game.

Starting in Division 11, you are one of the “good old boys” from the Golden Era of the League, when nearly every pub/club had a skittles alley and most had skittle teams.

Over those years you have mellowed but you still keep the team honest and you are one of your own fiercest critics.

Your coining of the phrase “W*NKER BALL” speaks for itself.

Well done on outstaying all your contemporaries and maintaining your enthusiasm for what is A GREAT GAME.
Hilary Schofield - 50 Years

Executive Committee Members, Phil Judge (President), Wendy Harris, Charmian Sheppard and Di Blackburn called into the Bayshill Skittle Alley last night, 25th September, to help surprise Hilary Schofield and help celebrate her 50 years skittling in the Black & White Ladies skittle Team.
Hilary has been team Secretary for many years and is well known to most of the ladies teams in the League.
Phil said it was always a joy to come out and about and say well done to our long serving skittlers.
Hilary received an engraved wine glass, marking the occasion, and a Certificate signed by the Chairman acknowledging 50 years skittling.
